Lahore Sunsilk PFDC Fashion Week 2011: Ammar Belal's Take On Africa After NYC

Okay, so sitting in sweat pants and wearing a sports tee does not categorize me as an avid fashionista but i like to think i'm updated. And my boarding school people do not understand that and now that i'm home, i can freely do whatever i like regarding fashion, even though my finals are almost two weeks away. But i need fashion, it's my passion.
I missed the PFDC Fashion Week 3. Not that i'm a fashion journalist who goes from one show to the other, but i missed it as in i was in my boarding school and my only source of knowing what's happening up there was a small article in the newspaper for three days. And i wanted to see what my favorite designer was up to i.e. Ammar Belal.
The guy's got STYLE and you can't deny the fact that he's got an awesomely outrageous sense of style which is truly not meant for the pakistani stereotypes. His clothes are for the brave and daring "Damsels in Distress" who like to dress up do attract distress. And they enjoy it. No harm done, i suppose.
So his collection off the third PFDC fashion week's ramp was as dangerous as the wild Savannas of Africa and it truly felt like it was 'African Safari'. I reviewed his collection now on the internet and it was amazing. Being a teenager, i will admit that some of the hairstyles reminded me of lion king:the musical. I will sum up what i felt and saw and noticed in the following points

*What i liked was that Ammar Belal does his lowers really well, like some of the trousers and pants if used below plain white tees would look really cool. Or the jeans showed in this collection would go perfectly with these tops.
*Similiarly, if some of the tops and shirts if fused with regular jeans (specially dark blue colored) , would look way better.

And i'm talking from the point of wearing his clothes in college, which would look not so "student-ish" if worn in the exact same way as they were shown on the ramp. Since the ramp is not the streets of Islamabad. And this is just for the girls. But for boys like me, his menswear designs were just perfect and provide enough edge to make me stand out of the class. Not that i'm degrading anything he showed, but i'm just looking at it from wear-ability point of view. Otherwise, everything was just perfect.
*Some of the clothes, at a first glance, reminded me of Tarzan, from Disney. Like how there was some Jane's clothes hints and her father's style. The shorts, BTW, were totally hot.

*I remember the only time i met Ammar Belal and he told me he doesn't do well at designing eastern wear, which is why he likes playing with the western cuts, but i think the sherwani he showed was well done, and it proves it wrong that he doesn't do it well. It was quite good and looked good on Iffy Zafar (the model).

*The gowns and dresses by Ammar Belal are my second favorite clothes by him, after the jeans, and the ones shown in this collection, i think, were not very new. The designs and prints have already been tried on shalwar qameezes and the only gown thing i liked was the top of the gown Mehreen Syed wore, if the lower part of it were short and more fluffy, it would've looked much better.

*The short jumpsuits, i don't know what to call them properly, were the second best item after the jeans.
All in all the collection was wonderfully summed up and the make up went well with the clothes, only a little tweaking in the styling and putting the clothes together would've done wonders. The only thing i'm wondering right now is what music blared in the background to this collection? " I like to party" from Madagascar?
the best piece was the one the tee with the map of Africa on it. The borders of the tee were amazing.
