Music in My World Besides Mainstream Pop

Since a few months I've noticed that I've turned from Pop and Mainstream music to more Indie music and more soft and mellow and non-dance music that gives me a very calming effect. Maybe it's got to do with growing up and having grown up feelings. I thought I'd share some of my addictions here on my blog so maybe those of you who haven't checked them out, do that now.  Most of these are YouTube Suggestions that I stumbled upon.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="368"] Birdy[/caption]

BIRDY: She's 16 and though she is famous but her music is not for everyone. My favorite song of hers is "District Sleeps Alone Tonight." Though she is famous for contributing to the Hunger Games Soundtrack, but I knew her before that, so I win! Besides, her whole album is filled with melodies worth listening to. And her vocals, god! So powerful.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="379"] Lana Del Ray[/caption]

LANA DEL RAY: Initially I did find her through mainstream radio but it was only after I listened to her whole album "Born to Die" that I realized how much of a gem this singer is (and I admit, she's very very pretty and I am kinda crushing on her). Her nowadays hit "National Anthem" gives me goosebumps but my personal favorite is "Diet Mountain Dew" maybe cuz mountain dew is "not good for me, but I want it" (lyrics of the song)

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Mat Kearney[/caption]

MAT KEARNEY: It was actually the Google 2011 Zeitgeist that brought me to tears for the song was amazing I just had to check it out, the song was "Sooner or Later". Then I heard his song Runaway from the movie Soul Surfer and fell in love with that. He's got an amazing voice and his music great and very tear jerking!

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="360"] Rachel Platten[/caption]

RACHEL PLATTEN: Heard her song "Work of Art" in the ABC Drama "Jane by Design" and thought to check out more of her songs and then stumbled upon her album out of which "1000 Ships" was great. Her cover of "You're a mean One Mr. Grinch" is too cute for me.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="370"] Ingrid Michaelson[/caption]

INGRID MICHAELSON: Her cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love With You" is what intrigued me to check her out. And I'm loving what I've heard of her so far. My favorite song off her album "Human Again" has got to be "End of World". Check out her YouTube channel and fall in love with her music.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="378"] Imagine Dragons[/caption]

IMAGINE DRAGONS: Recently discovered courtesy of the trailer of Perks of Being a Wallflower. I love the book and loved the trailer. The trailer brought me to tears, so being the sentimental guy that I am, I chose to Google the song and find out it's their song "It's time" and me playing the song under the open sky at night with my best friend and running in a field and laughing is enough to make fall in love with it. It's acoustic version is actually very good. Their videos are cool. And so is the music.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="333"] Dustin O'Halloran[/caption]

DUSTIN O'HALLORAN: Fell in love with the "Like Crazy" soundtrack. The film is so good and the music is so nostalgic I just had to grab a copy of the soundtrack and find out it's actually just music by him. He's a pianist and a composer and the most played track on my iTunes is his Opus 37.

Sure, Nobody can beat the awesomeness of Gaga or the vocal constipation of Britney's, but there's a whole world of music out there for us waiting to be heard. Let's give them a chance too.

I just realized that almost all the songs are the ones which made me cry! Maybe that's why they're stuck in my head...
