Battle of the Idols

So Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers decided to release their videos all in one week. This is interesting. All these people used to be the Disney Superstars once and were sitting on top of the Tween Idol charts before Bieber or One Direction. With these videos, we see that even these artists are over their social status and are ready to go forth into new dimensions. So let’s dissect all the videos and see which video fares better.

Slow Down by Selena Gomez:-

With this video, Selena is definitely ready to dance. She’s bashing her image of the Disney Queen, and has aptly called her new album “Stars Dance.” We see Selena dancing away in a club, in theme with the lyrics of the song “Party all night in the neon lights” while on the other end she’s singing seductively in the back of a 1964 Mercedes Benz. She had made it very clear from the start that this album of hers will focus on the dance part, and Selena surely can dance! It’s a very well choreographed video that manages to capture not only the single’s, but the whole album’s vibe. Kudos to Selena for managing to keep the video less provocative, knowing she just came fresh off Spring Breakers promotions. It’s a big and a very crafty step towards her future that works in her favor.

Made in the U.S.A by Demi Lovato:-

This video marks the directorial debut of Demi where she stars in her video as only the singer, but the stars of the video are actually the two lovers portrayed by Dutin Milligan of 90210 fame, and the very beautiful Aimee Teegarden of Disney’s film Prom. Though it features the tried out formula of the guy going off to the Iraq war and leaving the girl behind, but the way it sweetly manages to capture the emotions and feelings of the couple is applaud worthy, considering it was Demi’s first directing venture. The story is sweet and the video goes along like a short film you don’t want to end. It’s a shame the video didn’t get as much attention as it should, and the blame goes to Demi dipping her toes in too many projects at once, so not being able to promote her album properly, but all in all, this video is a work of art.

The First Time by Jonas Brothers:-

The video is nostalgic, fun and apparently heavily inspired by instagram, knowing Joe Jonas to have won the top Celebrity Instagramer. The song, is about falling in love, and the video is about falling in love with life all over again. While the video is all fun and very heavily dosed on adrenaline, it manages to be a very fickle one. Yes, we get it, Joe has a beard now and Kevin is married. You guys have grown up. But really, Vegas? It’s not a bachelors party, and it’s fun to see our favorite celebs having fun, but this is just ruining the whole concept of the song. Maybe you could’ve gone less in the fun vibe of the song and tried not to get totally lost in the adulthood of it. No wonder it didn’t fare well on the charts.

So here you go, watch the videos and let us know which artist’s video is you fav!
