Photo Diary: Kuch Khaas Farmer's Market

I finally got a chance to visit the Farmer's Market at Kuch Khaas. For those of you who don't know; Kuch Khaas is a center of Art, Culture and Dialogue and one of the most happening places to be if you're into creative expression. Also, I had interned there, so the place holds a special space in my heart. It felt great to be back.

So the Farmer's Market is a weekly affair where local produce is sold. And the food, the food just makes it so much more worth the visit. It's like an explosion of flavor. You just have to go there once. I think I'm gonna be going back a lot.

I think my main target was to visit the stall of the designer Fayez Agariah. That's because I had been following him on facebook for a while, and while I liked the concept of his clothes in print, i never fully understood his ideology, since one cannot see the experience in pictures. What I saw left me feeling good about seeing creativity going forth in fashion. It seems all over at first, but when you visit and see the clothes, that is when things start to make sense . He has this minimal approach to fashion that he calls "couture primitive." So what I saw on the racks where just a bunch of scarves thrown together which made no sense. But when I saw them being draped on the mannequin is when I saw how it all came together. Besides that, he had amazing multipurpose ornaments made out of precious stones that were really cute.

Later on there was just so much to see. There was this dude who was selling all kinds of breads; olive bread with real olives in it, pumpkin break, pesto bread, and walnut bread. It was really tempting, but I don't think my bag could have carried all of the bread I wanted.

There was this local all natural beauty products stall by the brand Well Beeing. Their products smelled great, and while I do stay away from putting anything but water on my face, I will admit I was tempted by the allure of all natural products they had. Specially the lip balms in the mint and choco-mint flavor.

Next I talked to the woman who is the brains behind the Farmer's Market. Her company of organic products, Isloo Fresh, has these various types of cheese one has to try. Moreover, she brings out cooked things fresh from her kitchen made from the produce she sells. There was baba ghanush, and some tasty looking concoction of dried tomatoes and spices I was hoping to get my hands on. But turns out it's a best seller and sells like hot cakes! I think what Isloo Fresh is doing is a wonderful initiative and much needed since we need to promote our local produce and let the world know how cool we are, we have all these resources and we can make the most of them.

Further on, was a stall of jam heaven. The kind lady at the stall would let us sample the jams. It were combinations I had not heard of or even imagined. The cool chutneys and jams looked really pretty too. She was also selling cakes, bread, and cookies. all homemade. Imagine, how cool!

Sawabi Farms brought a mix of local fruits to the mix. They were selling grapefruit, and pomegranate, chilli, and a hybrid citrus fruit I can't recall what. They had an adjacent stall selling avocados!DSCN0022

And I ended the day with finally managing to get my hands on some indian food. The stall had all kinds of sweets and home made savory items to devour. I had a Dosa. And it was delicious!
