NUST Olympiad 2013: The good, bad, awesomeness! (Day 3 & 4)

Day 3:

I'll be honest, the night was tiring and exhausting. I couldn't sleep well (not the fault on the part of organizers, though). The morning began with an amazing breakfast of aloo wale parathe in the dining hall of the Al-razi 1 hostel. The staff was very helpful because I had asked one of them to tell me how to get my clothes ironed as the laundry is closed on Saturdays, so the guy got me my clothes ironed on a short notice! After changing into something suitable and non trendy (i don't like wearing the same clothes as everyone) I got to my friend's room where I saw how cool the NUST hostels are. The toilets are clean and they have hot water dispensers, which my friend tells me are useful in making noodles at midnight.

Anyhow, the events I attended this day were just the graffiti, during the day. I was too tired to walk so much, and by the time I reached for bait bazi, it had ended. The graffiti was really good. The people were talented and the artwork was very eye catching. Meanwhile, paintball competition was going on off campus at the Lake View Park (envious me!). I realized when I woke up that I hadn't missed much. Third day was not that much fun while the sun was up. But the excitement could be felt in the air as the sun went down. It was almost time for the theme dinner. And the theme was Gothic. Sorry to say (I had no other choice) but I had sneaked into one of the abandoned girls' rest room to get my make up done by my girl team mates as I know nothing about eye liner and what all the powder stuff is. So I showed them a pic I had taken off Google and they morphed me into a Gothic monster. I looked so scary. And that was good. So while I waited in the boys' line (it was reallyyyyyy long as compared to the girls' one) to get to the dinner, my friends got in. I got in just in time of the start of the awards ceremony. The ploitical skit was a shocker as everyone had assumed the real Imran Khan was there, but it was just a sketch that was well performed (though IK was a  tad bit skinny). The musical performance was awesome as I have always been a fan of Kashif Chishti. Then at the awards ceremony, I won! It felt so good to win! Then there was a mind blowing Mime performance. But I was disappointed when I saw how people behaved when dinner was served. We are not animals, and all of the participants failed to show that they belonged to an educational institutuion. I hardly got food. But whatever I got was good. And thus ended a tiring third day of the NUST Olympiad 2013.

Day 4:

I had assumed the closing ceremony would come quick. Which it didn't. It was the last day and it felt really sad to know I would be leaving behind all the fun times. But one has to get back to life. The day began with me waiting for the speed filming competition to begin. And when it did, I wasn't diappointed. Some of the films were really good. Though some were just.....I'd better not speak. It was a good experience overall. But the photography competition screening was really really good. I'm pretty sure the judges had a hard time choosing who to let win. The fashion event, as far as it had gone when I went in, seemed pretty interesting. It was a nice change to see the boys in it as well (The winning team had a boy too!) ; something positive.

So after lunch somewhere late in the afternoon, I took some rest and finally packed my bags and went off to the closing ceremony. And just like the opening ceremony, I liked the fact that it was short and to the point and the credits were well distributed. The overall winners of the Olympiad were Iqra University boys from Peshawar. And after finally receiving my cash prize. I took off towards home!

These four days were fun and exciting and I couldn't ask for more. In fact, I can. There were some improvements that could be made and some mismanagements that could be avoided. I will talk about them in my new post. But regardless of those, it was cool and colorful and a really awesome event!
