Versace Does Shalwar Qameez; Among Other Asian Influences

When I read this piece in Tribune about how the new Versace collection is inspired by "Pakistan's National Dress" I felt like the title was misleading the people into believing what the collection was about by showing just a piece of the picture. While I do believe Shalwar Qameez is a part of the inspiration for the collection, the main inspiration behind the collection actually is the Adventure that is Asia. India could very well say the same thing since come one, even Indians wear the kurta and qameez.Recently Updated7-001The inspiration behind the collection is "The Versace man is an adventurer in where he travels and what he wears." And with this collection you see a lot of Asian influences, mostly Arab. But the colors and the patterns of the collection clearly depicted a vibrant world where the colors of the sky are influenced by the sun and the Arab world will be known for it. The venue was decked out in sand with scarfs strung up like tents, which is obviously very "Arab." Even the head scarves are Arab.

The reason I wanted to talk about the post here was that not only the title of the Tribune article was misleading, the content in it was misleading too. Sure, it's exciting to see the four pieces of shalwar qameez that walked down the runway but they were not the only thing in the collection. There's more. And one should know.
