Republic Knows Whatever Will Be, Will Be
With PFDC Sunsilk Fashion week, you know you can count on the council to give us a good dose of menswear that leaves us feeling better about the condition of mens fashion in this country. This year, the major change in the looks was a softer side to the menswear.
I would particularly like to talk about Republic here.
Republic brought out the softer side to menswear this year. While Republic is known for it's extremely masculine menswear, this year they opted for floral patterns that defied the norm. To see men wear floral so blatantly, in this gothic, dark print, on a Pakistani ramp was something to laud. While floral has been done numerous times, and it is dominating the mens fashion market, Republic's print was down to earth and simpler. Adding sophistication through the marble print background, I could see Omar's personality and a lot of thought process being reflected in the prints.
But even so, there was the signature Republic silhouette the masses have come to fall in love with. The suits, the jackets, the coats, and the plaid pants was all quintessential Republic.
But this year, styling was taken up to a more sporty look. Tees, specially the suede ones, and the white sneakers were on point.
Omar wanted to do something fun this year, as he had told me, something different. And with the floral jackets that are gonna sell like hot cakes, the Republic took a risk, knowing that things will change now for Republic. Aptly titling the collection Que Sera Sera, Omar just upped the game for menswear in Pakistan. And here's hoping the ever stagnant waters of menswear start evolving into waters that promote the growth of flowers, rather than ignore any growth at all.
